One of the most important and interesting elements of good acting is physical transformation: it helps the audience lose sight of the actor and, instead, see the character in a multi-dimensional and immersive way. This class will focus on an acting/movement technique called Effort Shapes, created by Rudolph Laban. Students will explore the elements of time, weight, and focus and will learn to use how they move their physical bodies in space to create a 3-dimensional character for the stage. Through this work, students will create movement-based characters and learn to apply the techniques to improvisations and scripted scene work.
