"SponsorKnoxville Children’s Theatre, an education-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, is a local theatre company producing professional plays for children, by children. KCT is very committed to providing children opportunities to acquire and hone skills that enhance creative thinking, public speaking, project management, personal responsibility, leadership, and team work. All of these opportunities occur in a creative outlet where imagination thrives, self-esteem develops, and students learn the many life lessons that creative dramatics can teach.

For many children, KCT is their only opportunity to become involved in the performing arts. Most schools have eliminated or drastically reduced their performing arts programs. In addition to Knoxville’s children and teens, youth from Oak Ridge, Maryville, Sevierville, Morristown, Lenoir City, and every adjacent county have traveled to KCT to take advantage of our unique opportunities.

These opportunities are provided at NO COST to the child. Approximately 75% of KCT’s annual budget is earned revenue: ticket sales and class tuition. The balance comes from donors who care about the quality education and positive learning experiences for Knoxville’s young people.

Knoxville Children’s Theatre produces ten shows (at least three musicals) annually, with 14-16 performances of each show. KCT’s Academy offers four terms of classes in voice projection, character development, musical theatre, audition skills, beginning and intermediate acting, and many one day Master classes with professional guest instructors. KCT also hosts summer camps for intensive weeklong training. Not everyone loves the limelight, so KCT also offers children the opportunity to learn important behind-the-scenes skills such as set design, costume design, production lighting, sound design, stage management, and directing.

After fulfilling academy requirements, participants may apply for a year long internship program which immerses them in all aspects of the theatre. As their internship year progresses, they will experience the difficulties and joys of stage management, the opportunity to design sound, lights, and costumes; the internship culminates with the student directing one of the season’s productions. Many graduates of the KCT internship have been awarded college scholarships based in part on their extensive training and experience at KCT.

Please consider partnering with KCT to help fulfill the dreams and potential of area children. Because KCT is a local non-profit organization, your donation stays in Knoxville and will directly benefit local children. An investment in KCT is an investment in the lives of hundreds of children who will bring their skills to use as they grow and mature in our community.

Setting the stage for the future begins today.
