Knoxville Children’s Theatre will present “Godspell, Jr.” a live onstage version of the smash Broadway play, especially adapted for ages 6 and older. The play will be performed December 2 – 18, Thursdays and Fridays at 7 PM; Saturdays at 1 PM and 5 PM; Sundays at 3 PM.
Prepare ye for the timeless tale of friendship, loyalty and love based on the Broadway musical that inspired a generation. The disciples help Jesus Christ tell parables, using a wide variety of songs and comic timing. An eclectic blend of music, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ messages of kindness, tolerance and love come vibrantly to life.
The play is performed by 10 talented young actors, from ages 13 to 16. Konnor Stump, a freshman at Bearden High, plays Jesus. Derrick Washington, Jr., a sophomore at L&N STEM Academy, will perform the role of John the Baptist, and high-school junior Lily Kate Corley will portray Judas.
A talented ensemble plays the reminder of the roles: Celeste Paultre, Sydney Reed, Averi Richardson, Hannah Sloas, Keegan Spurr, and Simeon Thress. Keegan Spurr is making his KCT debut.
Kayla June Nobbe, a junior at Gibbs High, serves as the show’s stage manager. Wheeler Moon, a junior at West High, is the play’s scenery and lighting designer. Charlotte Stark, a high-school sophomore, is the show’s costume designer. Sean Sloas will perform the duties of Production Manager. Dennis E. Perkins is the show’s director, with assistance by Wheeler Moon. KCT is East Tennessee’s leading producer of stage plays for children.
The show is sponsored by The Comcast Foundation, Clayton Family Foundation, Home Federal Bank, the City of Knoxville, and Lusidmedia. Assistance was also provided by Bandit Lites and Prestige Cleaners.
