The story focuses upon a young farmer, John Proctor, whose servant-girl Abigail maliciously causes the arrest of the farmer’s wife for witchcraft. The farmer brings the girl to court to admit the lie. But instead of saving his wife, he finds himself also accused of witchcraft and ultimately condemned with a host of others.

This exciting drama about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem continues KCT’s fall tradition of producing Halloween-themed literary classics for children and families. “The Crucible” is one of the most-produced plays by high schools across the country, because of its gripping historical tale.

The play is performed by 15 talented young actors, from ages 12 to 17. West High students Zak Terry and Jaden Branson portray Proctor and Abigail. Clare Carter, who student-directed KCT’s recent “Pride & Prejudice,” will portray Elizabeth Proctor.

The rest of the cast includes Draven Copeland, Caleb DeLong, Bella Patterson, Lydia Pulsinelli, Brycen Ritchie, Joshua Rodriguez, Lauren Rymer, Leigh Shields, Boone Sommers, Ella Trisler, Grant Trivette, and Jared Watkins.

KCT Academy Director Dennis E. Perkins directs the production. L&N STEM Academy student Quintin Rhodes is the stage manager. The show’s designers are all middle- and high-school students: scenic designer Jared Watkins (L&N STEM), lighting designer Campbell Ella (Bearden Middle), and costume designer Noah Seaman. KCT is East Tennessee’s leading producer of plays for children and families.
