The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. In this specially created G2K version, all the beloved songs and familiar characters are present and accounted for. However, the entire script has been condensed to better suit young attention spans, and the plot has been slightly altered so as to highlight some important lessons that exist in this timeless tale.
Auditioners should prepare 8 to 12 bars of a song. Each auditioner must bring sheet music for the live accompanist. No “a cappella” auditions (auditions without accompaniment) will be heard. Do NOT choose a song from the show. Please highlight or clearly mark the section of the music that you will be singing for the audition.
Songs will be evaluated on pitch, strength of volume, tone, clearness of diction, depth of emotional expression, and ability to act while singing. Songs from musical theatre are highly preferred.
Auditoners should also prepare a SHORT one-minute monologue from a play or novel. The monologue should express comic emotion and a theatrical level of volume and expression.
Auditioners should bring their calendars. All actors will be asked to list all conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. The director will make every attempt to work around conflicts, whenever possible.
Music rehearsals will begin on Sunday, January 7. Stage rehearsals continue through Thursday, February 22. Rehearsals are generally held on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Actors should expect to attend most rehearsals. Tech rehearsals, on February 15, 18, 19, 21 & 22 are mandatory.
Actors must also be available for all 14 regular performances: February 23 through March 11, Thursdays through Sundays.
