There are at least four roles for actors making their KCT debuts.
Dorothy Gale, a young girl living on a Kansas farm, dreams of escaping her mundane life. The family’s mean neighbor, Miss Gulch, threatens to impound Dorothy’s cherished dog, Toto, so Dorothy and Toto run away. Suddenly a cyclone hits, and Dorothy and Toto, seeking shelter in the house, are transported to the Land of Oz. Dorothy’s house lands upon the Wicked Witch of the East, sending her off on a fantastic adventure. Along the way, Dorothy meets three new friends, each of whom lacks a crucial characteristic: The Scarecrow (“If I Only Had A Brain”) The Tinman (“If I Only Had A Heart”) and the Lion (“If I Only Had The Nerve”).
Auditioners should prepare 8 to 12 bars of a song. Each auditioner must bring sheet music for the live accompanist. No “a cappella” auditions (auditions without accompaniment) will be heard. Do NOT choose a song from the show. Please highlight or clearly mark the section of the music that you will be singing for the audition.
Songs will be evaluated on pitch, strength of volume, tone, clearness of diction, depth of emotional expression, and ability to act while singing. Songs from musical theatre are highly preferred.
Auditoners should also prepare a SHORT one-minute monologue from a play or novel. The monologue should express comic emotion and a theatrical level of volume and expression.
Auditioners should bring their calendars. All actors will be asked to list all conflicts with the rehearsal schedule. The director will make every attempt to work around conflicts, whenever possible.
Music rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, May 30. Stage rehearsals continue through Thursday, July 13. Rehearsals are held Sunday through Thursday evenings. No rehearsal on July 4. Actors should expect to attend most rehearsals. Tech rehearsals, from July 9 – 13, are mandatory.
Actors must also be available for all 14 regular performances: July 14 – 30, Thursdays through Sundays.
